Preparations for the first phase of the NZ Wine Centre - Te Pokapū Wāina o Aotearoa are under way.
NMIT’s D-block has been removed and the site has been cleared for the new development. Tenders have been received this week and final project details are currently being negotiated.
The NZ Wine Centre (NZWC) will provide integrated facilities for Plant & Food Research, NMIT and the Bragato Research Institute to work together with the wine industry by bringing together innovators, educators and researchers. The NZWC will become the hub for grape and wine research in NZ.
Stage 1 of the NZWC will provide offices, customised meeting rooms, a staff room, and extendable multi-use spaces for larger audiences to cater for industry workshops and briefings and co-shared space for wine research institutions and visiting industry to collaborate.
Stage 1 construction is due to commence in 2020 with a ten month build phase completed in 2021.
When complete, the buildings will cap off nearly four decades since the Marlborough Research Centre was started to support the region’s economy and make it more resilient.
