Biodiversity at local, national and global scales

Marlborough has active groups working in the pursuit of biodiversity, restoration and conservation. Twice a year they come together for a Biodiversity Forum.

The most recent forum was held at the MRC. It had the theme of “Biodiversity at different scales”, with talks demonstrating the importance of biodiversity conservation at local, national and global scales and a poster session with 15 poster displays. The posters showcased the work of conservation groups that are restoring biodiversity across Marlborough.

The forum allows people to learn about conservation work in Marlborough, keep up to date with the latest research and share information related to biodiversity and its conservation/enhancement. All those interested in learning more about biodiversity management in Marlborough are welcome and each forum has a central theme.

“This recent forum was attended by 43 people which included members of various community groups, conservation volunteers, iwi, sustainable businesses, landowners and MDC and DOC staff, says Miranda van der Linde, chair of the organising committee of the Marlborough Biodiversity Forum.

“We had a very successful event using the MRC theatre and facilities. A few people connected by Zoom and that worked, and the people who attended in the theatre had a very good time,” says Andy Frost, chair of the Marlborough Falcon Conservation Trust, and emcee of the forum.

Andy commented that the space was ideal and even gave MRC credit for the splendid weather, which invited participants to mingle in the Marlborough sunshine.

If you would like to attend the next Biodiversity forum, please get in touch with us, and we will connect you to the organisers.

The forum used the theatre for presentations, the kitchen for refreshments, and the adjacent sensory room for the poster displays. MRC would be very happy to accommodate similar events in the future. When you are next looking for meeting space, please feel free to get in touch.
