On behalf of GNS Science I Te Pῡ Ao

When: Wed 7th December, 12.45pm to 3pm
Where: A8, NMIT, 85 Budge Street, Blenheim

‘Enhancing Earthquake Resilience in the Wine Industry’ was an MPI-funded project exploring the impacts, implications, and opportunities to enhance resilience for wine makers and grape growers in Aotearoa New Zealand. The team of Dr Nick Cradock-Henry (GNS Science) and Dr Jo Fountain (Lincoln University), with Dr Mohsen Yazdanian and Prof. Jason Ingham (University of Auckland) explored the effects of seismic hazards on wineries, business operations and infrastructure.

The goal of this workshop is two-fold;

  • to present the results of the project to inform efforts to reduce risk and vulnerability in Marlborough and contribute to long-term sustainability.

  • To seek feedback from stakeholders in the Marlborough wine industry about additional research needs in the area of wine industry sustainability to inform the next phase of research.

The format of the workshop is as follows (timings are approximate):

12.45pm: Introductions, light lunch served

1pm: Presentation of findings from the Resilience in the Wine industry study, including engineering, social and business resilience insights.

2pm: Workshop with participants identifying priorities for resilience in the region, with consideration of a range of issues facing regional economies, including seismic hazards, but also current and future challenges from regulatory processes, climate change and ongoing COVID-19 disruptions.

3pm: Concluding comments
