Rowley Crescent Vineyard brings together wine, research and education collaborations

Year 13 NMIT students Spencer Holmes, Hunter Ruffell and tutor Ngarita Warden harvest Pinot Gris at the Rowley Crescent Vineyard.

Vintage 2022 officially commenced at our Rowley Crescent Vineyard on 17 March with harvests from the NMIT Trades Academy and the Bragato Research Institute team.

The year 12 to 13 NMIT Trades Academy students harvested Pinot Gris for Spencer Holmes, a year 13 student, who will be making wine using these grapes as part of the programme.

“The students are from the Marlborough Boys and Marlborough Girls College who come to NMIT for one day a week to learn about winemaking”, says Ngarita Warden, Wine Science Tutor.

“In year 13 they get to make their own wines and make their own decisions, developing their own wine plan, researching the grape variety and deciding what style they want their wine to be.”

Students attend the program for two years and once completed, they receive a Level 3 Cellar Operations Certificate.
