Plant & Food Research’s Rob Agnew gathers monthly meteorological data which is available from the MRC website.
Looking back at 2019, most interestingly, 2019 was Blenheim’s equal hottest year on record, Rob notes.
2019 with a mean temperature of 13.954°C is technically the hottest year on record for Blenheim for the 87 years from 1933 to 2019. However, 2019 was only 0.004°C warmer than 1998, which recorded a mean temperature of 13.950°C. So for all intents and purposes 2019 and 1998 are in first equal place.
Is global warming having an effect?
Blenheim has reliable temperature records dating back to April 1932, a period of nearly 88 years. Rob’s weather data shows the 10 hottest years on record from 1932 to 2019 (page 3). “Six of those 10 years have occurred since 2010, concluding that global warming is being felt in Blenheim, as indicated in these figures.”
You will find more interesting facts in the press releases, which contains Rob’s complete report on Marlborough’s 2019 weather and beyond.
